Bold, rhythmic and irresistibly retro, the Orlan Orange Mid Century Curtain captures the optimism of vintage interiors through rows of sculptural fan-shaped arches. Saturated orange, burnt terracotta, ochre and deep charcoal repeat across the surface, giving mid century curtains a wonderfully graphic presence that instantly changes the mood of a room.
There is a distinct 1960s-to-1970s flavour here, but Orlan never feels like a costume piece. The disciplined geometry and limited palette give the design enough structure for contemporary interiors, while the radiating semicircles bring the playful nostalgia associated with mid century modern curtains. A warm golden border frames the pattern and makes the whole composition feel almost like a piece of vintage graphic art.
The repeated arches are the star. Each motif radiates outward in bands of orange and charcoal, creating a hypnotic scalloped rhythm from floor to ceiling. This makes geometric curtains an especially natural description of Orlan, but the design has considerably more personality than a conventional grid or stripe.
Its unapologetic colour also makes orange curtains feel surprisingly sophisticated. Burnt orange and ochre glow against the darker detailing, creating a palette that works beautifully with walnut, teak, caramel leather, olive green, smoked glass and warm cream walls.
Orlan deserves more than a cautious neutral setting. Try it in a mid-century sitting room with teak furniture and an olive sofa, a music room with walnut cabinetry, a home bar with smoked glass and brass, or an eclectic dining room where the window is allowed to become the main decorative event.
For a more restrained interpretation, surround the curtain with warm ivory walls and simple timber furniture. The limited palette allows the extraordinary pattern to provide the drama without requiring competing prints elsewhere. This is where mid century style curtains can be particularly effective: one strong period reference can give an otherwise contemporary room an entirely new identity.
Orlan is joyous rather than polite — a celebration of curved geometry, saturated colour and the expressive decorating spirit that makes vintage design feel exciting all over again.
